Before- and after-school programs
Before- and after-school programs will be offered at most elementary schools, with revised drop-off/pick-up routines, washroom protocols and enhanced cleaning procedures. If you have questions about child care, please contact your child care provider directly.
Wherever possible, the program will take place in a designated space within the school, such as a surplus classroom or the gymnasium, identified specifically for before- and after-school programs. If a designed space is not available, the before- and after-school programs will be held in a shared classroom space.
Each child attending the program will be assigned to a cohort and will only be able to access the space assigned to their cohort.
Enhanced cleaning procedures
Cleaning and disinfecting of the space, including instructional materials and equipment, will be completed daily, either after the program is closed for the evening or prior to the opening in the morning. Cleaning of classrooms where before- and after-school programs take place will be completed before the change in cohorts.
Drop-off and pick-up from the regular school day
At the beginning of the school day, school-aged children in the before-school program will go outside under the supervision of their child care provider and be instructed to join their class cohort. At the end of the school day, school-aged children will remain in their classroom space until the child care provider directs them to join the appropriate child care cohort.
Washroom protocols
Each cohort will have a designated washroom made available for them to use. In addition, each individual cohort will also have designated times assigned for washroom breaks. If a child needs to use the washroom outside of their designated time, a designated washroom will be assigned. Cohorts must travel as one group to designated washrooms at designated times.
EarlyON Centres
EarlyON Centres will continue their regular program delivery in schools where the centre has a separate entry/exit and a washroom for child and adult use available within the centre. Cleaning and disinfecting of the space, including instructional materials and equipment, will be completed daily.
Full-day child care programs
Full-day child care programs will continue their regular program delivery based on their current practice. Parents/guardians will access the child care centre for pick-up and drop-off exclusively through the entry/exit doors attached to the child care centre. School staff will only enter full-day child care locations in the case of emergencies. Regular cleaning and disinfecting will be completed after the child care program has ended for the day and all staff and children have left the centre.
