Students at Plowman's Park Public School created poppies to commemorate and honour Canadian heroes for Remembrance Day as part of the City of Mississauga Parks and Forestry's year-long project to paint 1,111 poppies. The poppies will be on display at Celebration Square from Nov. 9 to 11.
The poppies are painted on wood from ash trees using biodegradable milk paint in part of their efforts to be environmentally-friendly. After Remembrance Day, the poppies will be placed on the graves of veterans and city parks throughout the city. This valuable experience provided students with the opportunity to learn more about the history of veterans from the city and build strong connections with its community.
The City of Mississauga will honour our veterans with a ceremony on Friday, Nov. 9, beginning at 10:45 a.m., at the Community Memorial on Mississauga Celebration Square. Mississauga Celebration Square is located at 300 City Centre Dr.
