Sir Wilfrid Laurier Public School crossing guard named one of Canada's Favourite Crossing Guards

Gisele Young, a 93 year-old crossing guard at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Public School, was named one of Canada’s Favourite Crossing Guards. At an awards ceremony on Dec. 9, Young received a crystal maple leaf award, a $500 cash prize and a monetary award of $500 on behalf of Sir Wilfrid Laurier.

Having served more than 28 years in her community, Young is described by her school community as a friendly and caring individual who always looks out for her students and their safety. She has become a valued member of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier school community over the years and greets everyone with a smile, rain or shine.

Highlights from the awards ceremony were featured in a CTV News clip.

Sponsored by Parachute Canada and FedEx Express Canada, the award honours the extraordinary contributions of crossing guards across Canada who help keep children safe.
