Elementary students continue with remote learning until Jan. 25, 2021

Dear Peel District School Board families and students,

The Government of Ontario announced today that elementary (K-8) students will not return to in-person learning on Jan. 11, 2021, and will continue to learn remotely until Jan. 25, 2021.

Secondary students will continue to learn remotely until Jan. 25, as originally announced by the provincial government prior to the Winter Break. School routines for students in the Online Learning Model will also continue as usual.

Child care and before/after-school programs

During this time, all before- and after-school programs will also be closed. All child care programs serving infant, toddler and preschool-age children located inside Peel schools will be permitted to remain open during the Lockdown period. Please check with your individual child care operator directly for more information.

Access to technology

Schools will continue to provide technology to elementary students, beginning with those with the greatest needs. Please email your school if you have any questions or to request a device (view a list of school email addresses).

Financial support for families during remote learning

The Ministry of Education is providing financial support for families during this temporary remote learning period through the Support for Learners program. Starting on Jan. 11, 2021, an expanded Support for Learners program is providing $200 for each child or youth up to Grade 12 and $250 for each child or youth up to age 21 with special needs. Applications will be open until Feb. 8, 2021.

Stay safe and connected

As the number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise, it is more important than ever to follow public health advice to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Please continue to limit your interactions to your immediate household, and visit Peel Public Health's website for helpful resources and supports.

We understand that remote learning is challenging for some students and may not be suitable for all families. However, these important measures are in place by the provincial government to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, and we will always follow public health advice to keep our school communities safe and healthy. We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to school as soon as it is safe to do so.

While remote learning continues, we are committed to keeping families, staff, students and community members informed. Updates will be posted on our board website and Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts.
