Final deadline to switch learning models is Jan. 11, 2021 at 3 p.m.

Dear Peel District School Board families,

Welcome back! We hope you found time to enjoy your Winter Break in whatever way makes you smile.

As we shared on Dec. 21, 2020, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Government of Ontario recently announced the temporary shift to remote learning for most students in the province:

  • Elementary (K-8) students will learn remotely at home during Jan. 4 to 8, 2021, with the exception of some students with special education needs.

  • Secondary (9-12) students will learn remotely at home following their regular timetable during Jan. 4 to 22, 2021, with the exception of some students with special education needs.

Final opportunity to switch learning models for 2020-21 school year

As we prepare for Term 2 (elementary students) and Quadmester 3 (secondary) beginning Feb. 10, families will have the opportunity to request a change in their child’s learning model one final time this school year.

Beginning today (Jan. 4, 2021), families can request a switch in learning models from online to in-person learning, or vice-versa, by emailing your in-person school.

The deadline to submit your request is Jan. 11, 2021 at 3 p.m. Given that schools will be closed to most students from Jan. 4 to 8, please do not phone in your requests.

View a list of all school email addresses. Please email your school with the following information:

  1. Student full name

  2. Student number (This can be found on your child's last report card)

  3. Learning model choice (For K to 8 students: in-person or online. For Grade 9 to 12 students: adaptive learning or fully online)

If your child will be remaining in the same learning model, no action is required.

When will students start their new learning model?

Students' first day in their new learning model will be Feb. 10, 2021 for elementary students and secondary students when we begin Term 2 (Elementary) and Quadmester 3 (Secondary).

Leading up to these dates, students should continue to attend their classes as usual. We will use this time to plan for your child's smooth transition into their new learning model, ensure health and safety measures are in place, and make any necessary adjustments to staffing.

What if I miss this deadline? Will there be other opportunities to change learning models?

After the Jan. 11, 2021 deadline has passed, students will remain in their chosen learning model until the end of the 2020-21 school year. There will not be another opportunity to switch learning models.

Due to the considerable impact switching learning models has on staffing, physical distancing and students' continuous learning, we will not be able to accommodate another transition between learning models this school year.
