Peel board shares Reopening Plans with families, staff, students

​Dear Peel District School Board Families,​

As the start of the school year nears, we know many of you have questions about what to expect in September 2020. To help you prepare and make informed decisions about your child's school year, we have developed a comprehensive Family Guide: Reopening Plans for 2020-21 for Peel District School Board families and students.

This 63-page guide is available at www.peelschools.org/reopening. You can download the full document​, or jump to specific topics of interest on our Reopening Plans website. There, you will find information about enhanced health and safety measures, in-person and online learning models, revised schools routines, transportation, child care ​and more.

Thank you for your patience as staff worked to develop these comprehensive procedures, considerations and routines since the Ministry of Education's announcement on July 30, 2020. Our plans are based on direction from the Ministry's Guide to Reopening Ontario's Schools as well as recommendations from public health agencies. Our plans are also influenced by feedback and questions from parents/caregivers, students and staff over the past couple months.

As the COVID-19 situation evolves, we are prepared to adapt our plans as needed, always with the health and safety—both physical and socioemotional—of students and staff at the heart of all of our decision-making. Some aspects of this plan may change, as we receive further direction from Ministry of Education or guidance from public health agencies, and as we discover new and more effective ways of teaching and learning through these new learning models. We will notify families of any changes in a timely manner.​

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the lived experiences of students, families and staff members in different and significant ways. As we navigate through a new learning and teaching landscape, we remain committed to providing safe and equitable places to learn and work, with the success and well-being of students and staff at the centre of all we do. In particular, we will identify and seek to address inequities that may have been exacerbated by COVID-19 and our time apart. Through it all, we will maintain a relentless focus on mitigating risk to health and safety as much as possible.

Submit your return-to-school plans by Aug. 17, 2020

On Aug. 7, 2020, an Intention to Return to School Form was emailed to all student board-provided Google accounts. If you haven't already done so, please fill out a form for each of your children by Noon on Aug. 17, 2020. You can also make changes to your form until this deadline by following these steps:
  1. Click on the form link in the email that was sent directly to every student's board-provided Gmail account.
  2. After you click on the link, it will open the form and you will see a message that says "You've already responded". Click on the text link at the bottom that says "Edit your response."
  3. Fill out the form again and submit it once completed.
Although schools will follow up with families who do not respond, we require as many responses as possible by Aug. 17, 2020 to create and organize cohorts, coordinate bussing, develop timetables and best plan for your child's safe arrival to school. We appreciate your support under this tight timeline.
