Peel board students, staff honour Remembrance Day with special assemblies
Peel District School Board students and staff will recognize Remembrance Day on Monday, Nov. 11, with events and activities to honour those who have served and are still serving our country. Staff at the HJA Brown Education Centre will hold a reception, featuring student performances and readings by staff.
"On Remembrance Day, students and staff from across the Peel board will pay tribute to those who fought for our freedom, and recognize those still serving our country today," says Peter Joshua, director of education. "On this day, and every day, it's important that we honour the tremendous courage and sacrifices of these Canadian heroes who have helped to shape our nation."
Students from Chinguacousy Secondary School's dance, drama and music programs will present original and published material in a school-wide assembly, focusing on the theme, Hidden Figures: The Contributions of Women, Indigenous People and Individuals of Colour to Canada's Military Heritage. The school will also have a photography display of authentic artifacts from the Canadian War Museum, photographed by Chinguacousy student, Ciaran Federico.
In Caledon, James Bolton Public School will honour Canadian heroes through a school assembly, featuring a choir performance, and a visit from a Canadian veteran.
As part of their Remembrance Week initiative, Erindale Secondary School in Mississauga will create an artwork display to pay tribute to family members in the school community who have served in wars or peacekeeping missions. Credit Valley Public School will hold an assembly, featuring vocal performances in French and English by grade 1 and 5 students.
Peel board staff will gather at the HJA Brown Education Centre in Mississauga for a Remembrance Day tribute beginning at 10:20 a.m. on Nov. 11. The event features readings by Peel board employees, and performances by students from Britannia Public School, and Cawthra Park, Louise Arbour and Mayfield secondary schools.
