From April 8 to 12, Peel District School Board schools and worksites will host special activities and events to celebrate Education Week, an annual showcase of accomplishments of staff, students and school communities. The theme for this year's week-long focus on education is We Inspire.
"Education Week is a time for staff, students, departments and school communities to celebrate what makes their schools and worksites unique—to share how they inspire," says Peter Joshua, director of education. "It's a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the power each of us has, in each of our roles, each and every day, to inspire success, confidence and hope in each student."
During the week, Peel schools will host a number of activities including open houses, plays/musicals, storytelling, environmental activities, awards assemblies, talent shows and much more. Artwork is also on display at the HJA Brown Education Centre.
In addition, one of the highlights of Education Week is the presentation of awards to staff, students, volunteers and community members. More than 1,800 individuals will also be honoured with Awards of Distinction for their contributions to their school or workplace. On April 15, the board will also hold its annual recognition event, Showcase of Excellence, to honour staff, students, volunteers and community members who have made outstanding contributions to public education in Peel. This year, Dave Badovinac, former vice-principal at Sandalwood Heights Secondary School, will be recognized posthumously with the Education Champion Award for his significant and lasting contributions to public education inside and beyond Peel region. We will also be recognizing 33 staff, students and community members who will be recognized with the Awards of Excellence.
Showcase of Excellence will take place on April 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the HJA Brown Education Centre, located at 5650 Hurontario St.in Mississauga. To attend, please RSVP by contacting Judi Stephenson at [email protected] or 905-890-1010 ext. 2818.
