Summer School - Updates February, 2021
Summer School is a great option for students who wish to complete an additional credit or who may need to upgrade a mark during the summer. Courses are offered for students currently in grades 9 to 12, as well as for adult learners working towards their high school diploma.
In the interest of student and staff safety, we are offering a fully online program again using the Brightspace platform. Additional opportunities for English Language Learners are available. Regrettably, there are no plans at this point to run the Peel Summer Cooperative Education or Study/Travel programs this summer.
All of our eLearning classes are scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Monday – Friday from July 5 – 30, 2021 (inclusive). Teachers will post their two scheduled daily office hours periods at the start of the course. Synchronous engagement will take place during the office hours periods, and may take the form of any combination of lessons taught via MS Teams/Google Meet, small group conferences, tutorial sessions, teacher-moderated chats, or teacher outreach with students. Outside of the synchronous engagement, students will be working asynchronously on learning tasks assigned by the teacher, collaborating with peers on group assignments, reviewing for tests and connecting with the teacher for support as required. Given that all 13 virtual sites are running within the same parameters, students may select the available course of their choosing at any site.
Two-week sessions (i.e., 55 hours) are open to students who have completed the same course during the academic year, and are now open to students who either did not earn the credit, or who earned the credit but wish to upgrade their final passing mark. The school team who knows the student best may recommend whether the student would be able to complete the course in a 55-hour session, or if it would be more appropriate for the student to register for the full 110-hour session.
Dates for Summer School 2021
Classes will run from July 5 - 30, 2021. Full credits will be offered in 110 hours of instruction; half-credits and make-up courses will be offered in 55 hours of instruction. All sections will involve both synchronous and asynchronous egnagement. Online "office hours" will be shared with students at the start of the course. Students are encouraged to review the Student Handbook before classes begin.
