The Peel board ESL - Part 1 Additional Qualification course uses a blend of face-to-face and online learning to help you develop the skills you need to support ESL instruction through a variety of learning formats. You will learn:
- The basics of ESL instruction including theoretical foundations
- Program planning and implementation
- Instructional practices
- Assessment and evaluation
- Current learning environment and ethical considerations related to teaching English language learners
Instructors will draw on their wealth of experience teaching English language learners in the Peel board to bring course content to life.
The course consists of 125 hours of work as defined in
Regulation 176/10 (Ontario College of Teachers Act).
For Peel District School Board AQ courses, the 125 hours are broken down into:
- 60 hours of face-to-face instruction
- 40 hours of online learning
- 25 hours for course work, including group work outside of class, reading and major assignments

Dates: Tuesdays, January 14 - April 28, 2020 + Online Course Work
Tuesdays 15 days: 4 hours per class - 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The online component consists of 40 hours over the course duration.
Readings, Assignments, Group Work Outside of Class
This component will make up a total of 25 hours of course time by the end of the course.
