MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Delegations

Helen Jarvis delegated the board regarding transportation to Nelson Mandela Public School.

Trudi-Ann Newby delegated the board regarding Section 23 of the Charter of Rights & Freedom and Section 293 of the Education Act.

Peel students receive scholarships from Canadian Federation of University Women Brampton

Trustees congratulated the following 13 students for being selected by the Canadian Federation of University Women Brampton to receive CFUW Brampton Scholarships to assist with their university tuition. Our Peel winners were recognized for their academic achievement and their demonstrated commitment to school activities and to community involvement.

Board approves consolidated financial statements

Trustees approved the consolidated financial statements for the year ended August 31, 2014.

The board approved working fund reserve transfers of 2013-14 year end:

• a transfer of $5,416,746 to the Working Fund Reserve
• a transfer to Dedicated Working Fund at August 31, 2014 to be used for:
- school and school support consumable funds in the amount of $1,300,541
- short term professional development funds in the amount of $1,790,812
- miscellaneous operational funds in the amount of $3,719,425
• a transfer of $3,000,000 appropriated to the Retirement Gratuity Reserve to meet the future amortization requirements of the retirement gratuity liability
• a transfer to a Dedicated Working Fund Reserve at August 31, 2014 to fund the estimated additional project costs for the Mineola Public School renovation in the amount of $350,00 ($216,346 at August 31, 2013)
• that the Dedicated Working Fund Reserves be transferred and used to offset the applicable operational costs in 2014-15


Board hears status update on The Journey Ahead Action Plan

Since January 2013, much groundbreaking work has been done by staff throughout the Board to complete the work outlined in the report entitled "The Journey Ahead: Our Action Plan for Equitable Hiring and Promotion in Peel". Of the 33 findings, the majority are now at the "complete" stage and have been integrated into Peel District School Board hiring practices.
