Mississauga Public Library Board gives special presentation

The chair of Mississauga Public Library Board gave a special presentation regarding the library’s activities and initiatives.

Board sends open letter expressing disappointment in Immigration Watch Canada publication

Chair Janet McDougald expressed the board's offense to Immigration Watch Canada’s most recent publication targeting immigration in Brampton.

Hubert Brard receives OASPHE System Leader Advocacy Award

Hubert Brard, instructional coordinator for the arts, health and physical education, was selected by the Ontario Association for the Support of Physical and Health Educators as the recipient of the 2014 OASPHE System Leader Advocacy Award. The award is presented to a leader at the system level who exemplifies a strong voice for the delivery of quality Health and Physical Education programs.

Judy Mendaglio receives OAME Award for Exceptional and Creative Teacher in Secondary Mathematics

The board congratulated Judy Mendaglio, curriculum head in mathematics at John Fraser Secondary School, on being selected by the Ontario Association for Mathematics Educations as the recipient of the 2014 OAME Award for Exceptional & Creative Teaching in Secondary Mathematics. The provincial award is presented annually to recognize an exceptional and creative secondary school math teacher who enhances the teaching of math in Ontario.

Board recognizes Terry Fox Foundation top fundraisers

The board of trustees congratulated Peel board staff and students who participated in September’s Terry Fox Run. Humberview Secondary School, and William G. Davis, Hazel McCallion and David Leeder senior public schools, were recognized by the board and the Terry Fox Foundation for placing among the Top 25 Terry Fox Fundraisers of 2013.

Peel schools honour police officers during Police Appreciation Week

The Peel District School Board will pay tribute to police officers by holding Police Appreciation Week from May 11 to 17. Peel students and staff will show their appreciation for the tremendous job being done by police to protect schools, homes and communities.

Board delays boundary change in Springdale community to September 2015

The board approved a deferral to the boundary change at Springdale Public School until September 2015. Community members will be informed of this deferral by letter.

Board approves enrolment cap at Eldorado Public School

To ease enrolment pressures, the board has approved a cap of 1,100 students and/or a maximum of 47 classes at Eldorado Public School. Students exceeding this cap will be redirected to Copeland Public School for kindergarten to grade 5 and Huttonville Public School for grades 6 to 8.

Tender awarded for construction of Credit Valley 5 #1 Public School

The tender, in the amount of $11,816,410 including HST, for the construction of Credit Valley 5 #1 Public School, has been awarded to Remo General Contracting Limited.

Board appoints two trustees and alternates to 2014-15 OPSBA Board of Directors

The Peel board appointed Rick Williams and David Green to serve on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association for the 2014-15 period. Beryl Ford and Suzanne Nurse will serve as alternates.

Trustees appointed to Workforce Census Steering Committee

Meredith Johnson and Rick Williams were appointed to serve on the Workforce Census Steering Committee, which will provide advice and direction on the logistical aspects of drafting, implementing and analyzing the data collected in the Workforce Census and develop a comprehensive communications strategy.

Board approves Regular Meetings of the Board schedule for 2015

A revised schedule of board meeting dates from January to December 2015 was approved.

Trustees Jeff White and Harinder Malhi take leave of absence

Trustees Jeff White, Wards 6 & 11, and Harinder Malhi, Wards 9 & 10, will take a leave of absence, as candidates of the upcoming provincial election, effective immediately.

• Pat Rossall, from Superintendent of Education - Alternative Programs, to Superintendent of Education for the Clarkson, Lorne Park and Erindale Families of Schools.
• Wendy Dowling, from Superintendent of Education for the Clarkson, Lorne Park and Erindale Families of Schools, to Superintendent of Education - Early Years.
• Jeff deFreitas, from Superintendent of Education - Early Years, to Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Support Services.
• Shawn Moynihan from Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Support Services, to Superintendent of Education for the Mississauga, Rick Hansen and The Woodlands Families of Schools.
