Delegations

Clive Thurston delegated the board on behalf of the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA), the Mechanical Contractors Association of Ontario (MCAO), the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and the Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario (EDAO), regarding the board's Procurement Practice for Construction Services

Skye Bowen delegated the board regarding the phasing out of the French Immersion Program at David Suzuki Secondary School

Boundary for Sports Regional Program at Applewood Height Secondary School expands to all of Peel

The board approved new boundaries for the Regional Sports Program at Applewood Heights Secondary School to include the Region of Peel, effective September 2014.

Boundary for International and Executive Leadership Academy Program at T.L. Kennedy Secondary School expands to all of Peel

The board approved new boundaries for the Regional International and Executive Leadership Academy Program at T.L. Kennedy Secondary School to include the Region of Peel, effective September 2014.

Board approves Statement of Review of Operating Budget in accordance with the Education Development Charge (EDC) By-law 2014

The board approved the following Statement of Review of Operating Budget:  "The Peel District School Board has reviewed its operating budget for the year ending August 31, 2014 to identify savings that could be applied to reduce growth-related net education land costs. The review has not identified any surplus operating funds available for capital needs. The Board has therefore determined the amount of savings is nil and the Board is unable to apply any savings to reduce growth-related net education land costs." 

Board receives Accessibility Plan Status Report on 2013-2017 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

The Accessibility Advisory Committee presented the board with the accessibility status report. It provided an update on the board’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and other accessibility related accomplishments as well as a review of strategies for achieving additional AODA and accessibility related goals and objectives for the following year.

The board has met its obligations under the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service and continues to address its ongoing obligations under this regulation. The board’s 2014 initiatives included responding to the Integrated Accessibility Standard Regulation (IASR) under the AODA and continuing to address accessible customer service activities and accessible upgrades in the board’s existing buildings.

Enrolment cap at Castlebrooke Secondary School increases to 1,900 students

The board approved an increase to the enrolment cap of 1,800 students at Castlebrooke Secondary School to 1,900 students, effective September 2014. Twelve portables will be placed on site to accommodate students within the school boundary.

Board staff will attend school council meetings at Castlebrooke Secondary School’s family of schools to inform the public of the boundary change, effective 2015 and beyond, between Chinguacousy and Castlebrooke Secondary schools.

Board approves official signing officers of the board

The board named the following individuals as officers of the board with authority to sign on behalf of the Peel board in accordance with board by-laws and the Statutes of Ontario:

Board reappoints external members to audit committee

The board reappointed John Donnelly and Wayne Howard to the Peel District School Board Audit Committee as external members for a period of three years, commencing Feb. 1, 2014.
