Peel schools awarded Parent Reaching Out Grants

Trustees congratulated the 157 Peel schools that have been awarded a total of $178,739 in Parents Reaching Out Grants for the 2017-18 school year. The Ministry of Education program supports projects that will help increase parent involvement in support of student achievement and well-being. 

Board recognizes October as National Principals' Month

Throughout the month of October, the Peel board recognizes the contribution of school principals and their impact on education in celebration of National Principals' Month. Schools will participate in various activities to raise awareness about the vital role of principals in public schools and communities across Canada.

Peel board recognizes Peel Teaching Assistant and Early Childhood Educators' Appreciation Day on Oct. 25
The board recognized Oct. 25, 2017, as Peel Teaching Assistant and Early Childhood Educators' Appreciation Day in Peel schools. This day is held on the last Wednesday in October every year. Schools will participate in various activities to acknowledge the contributions teaching assistants and early childhood educators make in the lives of children, families and community members.

Board asks staff, students and parents to say "thank you" to bus drivers
The board recognized Oct. 18, 2017, as Bus Driver Appreciation Day in Peel schools, a day for staff, parents and students to participate in a variety of activities to express their appreciation for school bus drivers.

Trustees to send letter to Ministry of Education and Ontario Public School Board's Association regarding suspension of EQAO testing

The board approved a motion to request the Ministry of Education suspend EQAO testing for the 2017-18 school year, and request the support of Ontario Public School Board's Association and all other public school boards in Ontario for this motion. This recommendation came as a result of the statement from the Ministry of Education to launch a multi-year initiative to modernize curriculums and assessment tools, including "to examine provincial measurement and assessment policy, including EQAO testing."

William Ball, teacher, will retire December 31, 2017

Donna Christopher, teacher, will retire November 30, 2017

Cynthia Crawford-Tijssen, teacher, will retire January 31, 2018

Jenny Fitzpatrick, teacher, will retire November 30, 2017

Sandy McGowan, office assistant, retired October 3, 2017

Ana Pauchulo, principal, will retire December 31, 2017

Patricia Pellew, teaching assistant, will retire November 17, 2017

Virginia Simpson, school attendant, retired October 1, 2017
