Board congratulates Ana Pauchulo for leadership in education award

Trustees congratulated Ana Pauchulo, coordinating principal – special programs/special needs, on receiving the 2016 Educational Leader of the Year Award for Peel Region. Pauchulo will receive the award from the Ontario Council for Exceptional Children (OCEC) in recognition of her excellence in the education and leadership of students with special needs. The award will be presented to her at the OCEC 60th Annual Special Education Conference in Toronto.

Board congratulates Ziggy Musial for induction into Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame

Trustees congratulated Ziggy Musial, facilities manager, on being inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Musial played Junior A, Senior A, professional and national lacrosse. He continued coaching teams in Brampton throughout the 80s and 90s, and has been an advocate for lacrosse in Ontario and beyond. Musial will be formally inducted on Nov. 12, 2016, in British Columbia. He was inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1999.

Annual Planning Document identifies Public Accommodation Review, new schools, boundary changes

Trustees approved the Peel board’s Annual Planning Document. To view the document, see Section 9.2 of the Regular Meeting of the Board agenda or call 1-800-668-1146 ext. 2212.

Board approves consolidated financial statements for 2015-16

The board approved the consolidated financial statements for 2015-16. Trustees also approved that the Audit Committee Report for 2015-16 be submitted by the Peel board to the Ministry of Education.

Trustees approve working fund reserve transfers for 2015-16 year end

The board approved:
• a transfer of $1,463,043 to the Working Fund Reserve
• a transfer to Dedicated Working Fund Reserve (Appropriated Accumulated Surplus) at August 31, 2016 to be used for:
- school and school support consumable funds in the amount of $1,569,398
- miscellaneous operational funds in the amount of $1,784,973
- $1,000,000 for 2016-17 to fund the delay of classroom closures
- $5,000,000 for funding adjustments related to Provincial Benefit Trusts implementation
• that the Dedicated Working Fund Reserves (Appropriated Accumulated Surplus) be transferred and used to offset the applicable operational costs in 2016-17

Board approves student census

Trustees approved the creation of a student census beginning in January 2017, with a planned implementation no later than the fall of 2018.

Board writes to City of Brampton in support of new university facility

Trustees will write a letter to the City of Brampton in support of their efforts for a new university facility.

Board writes to Ontario Universities' Application Centre requesting reconsideration of the implementation of additional fee

Trustees will write a letter to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre to share their concerns around the implementation of a new $50 fee for a change to university applications.
