BRIEFING - HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MAY 10, 2016
MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Delegation
David Laing from Bike Brampton delegated the board regarding active transportation in schools and provided an update on current key initiatives.

Manjinder Deol and Vinnay Tailor delegated the board regarding a request for an exemption to the boundary change for Churchville Public School.

Special presentation
Shari Lynn Ladanchuk, executive director of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Peel and Jim Van Buskirk, chief social worker, presented to the board and provided an update on in-school and employee mentoring programs at schools and work sites. This year marks 20 years of partnership and 12 years of employee mentoring with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Peel.

Trustees approve new child care centres
Trustees approved new child care centres at Caledon Central, Mountain Ash and Red Willow public schools as part of the Schools-First Child Care Capital Retrofit Policy (SFCCCRP). The goal of the SFCCCRP is to maximize current space in schools, either existing child care space impacted by the removal of four-and-five year olds due to the implementation of Full-Day Kindergarten or classroom space not required for educational purposes.

Board appoints two trustees and alternates to 2016-17 OPSBA Board of Directors
The Peel board appointed Carrie Andrews and Rick Williams to serve on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association for the 2016-17 period. David Green and Suzanne Nurse will serve as alternates.

Board approves Regular Meetings of the Board schedule for 2016-17 
Trustees approved the schedule of board meeting dates for the 2016-17 period. The schedule can be found in Section 9.4 of the Board Meeting Agenda

Wendy Dowling from Superintendent of Education, Early Years to Superintendent, Leadership Development and School Support Services
