MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Special presentation

Bonnie Shepherd, vice-president of development from Unicef Canada, presented to the board and thanked students, staff and families for their generous contributions of $215,164 in support of relief efforts for Nepal last year. The board has raised more than $1.7 million over the last 10 years.

Peel board recognizes Peel Custodial and Maintenance Workers’ Appreciation Day on Nov. 27

The board recognized Nov. 27, 2015, as Peel Custodial and Maintenance Workers’ Appreciation Day in Peel schools. Schools will participate in various activities to recognize the important work of custodial and maintenance workers, and to acknowledge the contributions that they make in the lives of our staff and students. This day is held on the last Friday in November every year.

Board approves revisions to Policy 48 – Safe Schools regarding school uniforms

Trustees approved changes to Policy 48 – Safe Schools to reflect the findings from the report on the secondary school uniform pilot project. The revised policy will be available at www.peelschools.org/trustees/boardpolicies in the coming days.

Board approves revisions to Policy 72 – Trustee Honoraria

Ontario Regulation 357/06 – Honoraria for Board Members sets out the method for calculating the limits on honoraria paid under Section 191 of the Education Act. Trustee honoraria is funded by the province of Ontario. The regulation states under section 6 (1.1) that the enrolment amount is to be calculated anew in each year of a member’s term of office.

Board approves revisions to Policy 45 – Pupil Accommodation Review (PAR) and Policy 77 –Community Planning and Partnerships

Trustees approved changes to Policy 45 – Pupil Accommodation Review (PAR) and Policy 77 – Community Planning and Partnerships to align the board’s accommodation review policies with new ministry guidelines, and that reflect input from Leadership Council, Physical Planning and Building Committee, Trustee Review Committee, legal counsel and all Peel communities.

Trustees recognized the contributions and years of service of the following staff who have/are retiring:

Rudolph Burke, custodian, will retire Jan. 3
Harry Hilts, head custodian, will retire Dec. 31
Xiomara Ottati, teaching assistant, retired Oct. 26
