Chinguacousy Secondary School opened in 1972. The school’s motto is “Honour and Excellence”, and our mission is to educate our students with our motto in mind.
Chinguacousy’s strong academic and athletics programs are focused on this mission. Students participate in a variety of co-curricular activities through which they learn discipline and leadership skills, and experience the value of team spirit. They also participate in a number of fundraisers resulting in thousands of dollars for charities.
Chinguacousy hosts two regional special education programs—the Secondary Regional Communications Program (LD) and the Regional Transition Program for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We also offer a Specialist High Skills Major program in Health and Wellness. We are excited to see the start of a new regional SciTech Program this September. This program is supported by a new 20 room addition to the building with state of the art science and technology classrooms and equipment.
We are recipients of Urban and Priority Schools Funding, a grant provided by the Ministry of Education to schools in need of support. Chinguacousy Secondary shares $355,000 per year with Judith Nyman Secondary School. We offer after school activities and bus tickets home so that our students can fully participate. We supplement field trips and provide certification training programs in first aid, CPR and sport refereeing. The funds cover the cost of leadership programs, extracurricular activities, support staff, workshops and inspirational speakers. The grant began in 2008-09 and will continue for an extended period of time.
