Derry West Village Public School is an inclusive learning community which embraces the African proverb, “It takes a whole village to raise a child”. Unique in both its past and its future, DWVPS is Peel’s first cluster school. The configuration of classrooms around a co-operative learning space is reminiscent of small houses clustered about a village square. This design pays tribute to the original school built in 1856, in the village of Derry West.
At Derry West Village our mission is to provide students with the best education possible. As such, excellence in achievement, the provision of quality academic programmes and culturally responsive practices are our highest goals. The Derry West Village staff are very committed to our vision of helping students prepare for a successful future by setting high expectations, providing diverse learning opportunities and respecting all student experiences, in a collaborative learning community. Students are encouraged to participate in activities in any area of interest – academics, athletics, the arts, citizenship, leadership and community involvement. We believe that families, students, staff and the community must work together to help raise our students to become global citizens with a sense of responsibility and social conscience.
