At Glendale Public School, we recognize that students achieve their best when they feel safe, nurtured, welcomed, respected and included. We are committed to providing a healthy learning and working environment to support student success by promoting responsibility, respect, civility, academic excellence and good citizenship.
We believe that the school, parents and our community must all work together to help students learn to become responsible members of society and be sensitive to the diverse, cultural and special needs of individual students. We must clearly demonstrate respect for social justice and human rights and promote the values needed to develop responsible members of a democratic society.
Beyond the classroom, a number of initiatives are offered at Glendale to help reinforce our teaching and learning focus and to strengthen our belief that we are encouraging our students to become lifelong learners, as they are “Learning Today for Tomorrow.” These initiatives include being an Ontario EcoSchool for students to learn to respect and protect our environment; highlighting students’ talents through performances and RAH (Reading At Home) for all students to increase their literacy skills. Community visitors include authors, music groups, drama shows and scientists, to name a few. A variety of extracurricular activities are available (e.g., sports, drawing club, colouring book club, board games, crafts and Robotics). Leadership and volunteer opportunities are offered (e.g., student council, library leaders, global citizens for change, PALS, milk monitors, reading buddies, kindergarten helpers, cookie day helpers and announcement readers).
