Cheyne Middle School’s mission statement is, encourage the children; develop their character; create success
At Cheyne, we have a variety of programs and initiatives to encourage and engage students in their own success. We believe strongly in student leadership and provide a variety of opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills, including Peer Mentoring Program, House Leaders, and Hall Monitors, to name a few. Cheyne has a strong Character Education focus in all that we do. Teachers develop their lessons and units in ways that also incorporate character education.
Cheyne has a number of unique classes and programs, including Gender classes, Contact Program and Breakfast Club). We also embrace 21st century learning through technology, as students are encouraged to bring their own personal devices to use in class. Teachers use a variety of technologies in their teaching as well as teach students how to use these technologies appropriately and effectively.
Cheyne also has a SPARK program, based on the research of Dr. John Ratey, who found that physical exercise increases focus, attention and brain development in students. Presently there are more than 50 students that voluntarily attend each day.
Cheyne offers a huge variety of extracurricular activities for all students. There are sports teams of every description, clubs (including reading clubs, chess club and sport literacy) as well as a strong music program. Musically, students can become involved in a guitar club, bucket drumming, Glee Club and/or participate in the band program.
Cheyne continues to see improvements in student success and engagement each year. It is a place that makes learning fun and relevant to all.
