Our mission statement is, "Terry Fox Public School will foster a caring environment that values mutual respect, lifelong learning and student success. We celebrate staff, students and community achievement."
Terry Fox is a dual-track school that offers French immersion in grades 1 to 5 and English programming from kindergarten to grade 5. We are fortunate to have a before and after care program available to parents in our school (PLASP). We currently serve approximately 580 students, two-thirds of which are French immersion. There is strong community support for the school, and we are supported by an active school council.
We have a variety of extracurricular activities including: volleyball, basketball, cross country, floor hockey, soccer, student eco club, bench ball, board games club, Glee club, and primary and junior choir.
Our school places a high emphasis on character traits, and monthly assemblies are held to recognize the achievements of students who live out the traits on a regular basis in school. In addition, there are spirit days throughout the school year (e.g., moustache day, crazy hair day, pyjama day). Volunteers play an active part in our school to support students in reading, trips and pizza days.
Given that our school is named after such a prominent figure in Canada's history, Terry Fox, we are actively involved in raising money for the Terry Fox Foundation. We not only organize our annual school run, but are also involved in the organization as well as host the Terry Fox community run for the City of Brampton. Our teachers are very dedicated to this cause and event, and help make it memorable.
