At Thornwood Public School our mission is, “to create a community of connected, confident, critically thinking citizens growing in a changing world.” This mission is at the forefront of everything we do and encompasses all that we value and believe in. We strive to be responsive to the uniqueness of each child to prepare them for the society in which they currently live and which they will lead in the future. We believe that this is achieved when parents, teachers and students work together. Therefore, we foster a learning community where all are valued as contributing members.
Located in the heart of Mississauga, we feel one of our greatest gifts is the diversity of our community as it brings a multitude of perspectives and experiences to enrich our school. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in their child's education through our Parents Involved as Educators program as well as through various open houses and volunteer opportunities. Our teachers work collaboratively to challenge themselves and students to think critically about the world around them and recognize their place within it. They have also embraced technology as a means to communicate, create and learn. Environmental stewardship is a focus of our school and we are proud to be a certified Ontario EcoSchool. Students are taught to be environmentally conscious and to take action to improve our environment. Additionally, students are empowered to be leaders in the school through our student ambassador and playground activity leaders in schools programs.
Each student is valued for who they are. Through our education at Thornwood, students are encouraged to gain the skills, strategies and desired necessary for continued learning and growth. Our focus is to provide rich, learning experiences that develop a strong sense of responsibility for themselves and toward each other, their community and the earth's resources.
