Barondale Public School is an elementary school that celebrates diversity and values inclusion. Our school motto, Many Hands, Many Lands, One Heart / Beaucoup des Mains, Beaucoup des Terres, Une Coeur, captures the spirit of our school as we appreciate the cultural diversity of our community, while working together to support one another in order to achieve excellence in a climate of support and compassion.
With 38 different languages spoken by students and families, Barondale provides many opportunities for parents to network through school council functions, during our Welcome to Kindergarten program and on ESL Parent Nights. Our dedicated staff ensures that every child has the opportunity to learn, according to his or her needs. Each staff member utilizes a variety of learning styles in teaching so that students can learn through different ways such as through pictures, texts, listening, drama, movement and technology. We strive to provide effective assistance in every way to our children who are learning English as their second language, as well as our students with special needs. We value parent involvement and have active volunteers who read with emergent readers as part of our Barondale Bookworms program. Many opportunities for student leadership are provided so that students can develop skills and an understanding of the importance of social justice.
Barondale has an outstanding music program where students learn to sing music from a variety of styles and cultures and learn to use many, different instruments. We also have an exemplary physical education program where students participate in team games, individual skill building and special events. Our teacher librarian ensures that quality reading material from a variety of genres is available for student use and in addition, maintains our Teacher Resource Centre where our guided reading library books and materials are available for small group reading in the classroom. Barondale’s French immersion program for students in grades 1, 2 and 3 commenced in September 2012. We look forward to continually expanding our school’s horizons!
