Early ON Child and Family Centres
Our P.F.L.Cs (Parenting and Family Literacy Centres) have a new name!
The P.F.L.Cs are called EarlyON Child and Family Centres as of January 2018.
Find an EarlyON center near you at http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/childcare/FamilyPrograms.html.
Our centres will continue to offer a play-based drop-in pre-school where children from birth to 6 years old can learn, play, laugh and be curious alongside their parents, caregivers and peers.
EarlyON Child and Family Centres are free, school-based drop-in programs for parents, grandparents, and caregivers with children from birth to age six. Each centre is staffed by an Early Childhood Education (ECE) certified Parent Worker, and offers a variety of fun learning activities. Through music, stories and play, children can start to build essential skills like sharing, early literacy and numeracy, and communication.
The centres provide opportunities to:
- become familiar with a school building and general routine
- become familiar with the play-based, full-day kindergarten curriculum, and help children transition more easily
- borrow age-appropriate and multilingual books
- build connections between families
- discuss parenting concerns and seek referrals if necessary
- establish positive home-school connections
- get information about community resources
- participate in a family literacy program that helps children develop essential skills
- promote optimal child development through positive parent-child interactions
You don't need to pre-register, just sign-in each time you visit, as many times a week as you want. Every child must be accompanied by an adult who stays at the centre for the duration of the visit. Parents and caregivers can bring more than one child.
A daily nutritious snack is provided for all during the program. Coffee and tea are available for adults. You may wish to bring lunch (a microwave and refrigerator are available). All of our schools are nut free and your particular school centre may have other food restrictions; please speak to the parent worker at your centre before bringing in any food.
The centres are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday during the school year and follow the school calendar from September to June.
