Burnt Elm Public School hosts community citizenship ceremony
Burnt Elm opened its doors to 41 new Canadians as they were sworn in at the Canadian Citizenship Ceremony on May 12. The ceremony was hosted in collaboration with the ICC (Institute for Canadian Citizenship) and the CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada). Community members facilitated round table discussions among new Canadian citizens, where they shared their inspiring stories and the reasons they chose Canada as their home. Students from the Glee Club sang two inspiring songs about Canada, while grade 5 students had the opportunity to observe new citizens taking an oath, with Judge Dhaliwal officiating the ceremony. It was a wonderful authentic learning experience for the students and a memorable day for the new Canadians!
