More than 600 grade 1 to 4 students from 32 Peel District School Board schools will take part in four Junior FIRST LEGO League Showcases. The program features a real-world challenge to be solved by research, critical thinking and imagination.
The upcoming showcases will take place:
• May 23 at Worthington Public School located 71 Worthington Ave. in Brampton
• May 28 at HJA Brown Education Centre located at 5650 Hurontario St. in Mississauga
• May 29 at Kenollie Public School located at 1376 Glenwood Dr. in Mississauga
• May 30 at Credit Valley Public School located at 2365 Credit Valley Rd. in Mississauga
The theme for the event is Disaster Blaster. Guided by their teachers, students work with LEGO elements and moving parts to create solutions and present them for review. The students will create a display board and LEGO models that reflect what they have learned from their research.
Students from Rick Hansen, Fletcher’s Meadow, Port Credit, Chinguacousy and Gordon Graydon secondary schools will be on hand to work with the elementary students. This mentoring process has been ongoing for several years at various levels and has given Peel programs worldwide success in robotics.
