Esker Lake Public School is hosting a Family Math Night on Thursday, Feb. 13. Families are invited to come to the school to learn about the many diverse ways we approach math instruction at school. It will take place between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. in gymnasium.
The math night includes:
• seven different work stations using math thinking tools—math learning across kindergarten to grade 5.
• a display of storybooks with a math connection
• a graffiti wall where participants will answer math questions
• student displays of open and parallel tasks completed in class.
Student will receive their own bag of "thinking tools" to continue the math learning at home, as well as the Ministry of Education document Doing Mathematics With Your Child - K to grade 6. Staff hope this will help parents have a hands-on understanding of what math looks like beyond the work sheets that were a part of their education.
Esker Lake Public School is located at 10420 Heart Lake Rd. in Brampton.
