Communications Officer


We are seeking a Communications Officer reporting to the Manager of Communications.  The Communications Officer will play a key role in developing and implementing internal and external communication programs to foster and maintain authentic, mutually beneficial relationships between the board, schools and our communities.

Responsibilities include:  implementing a strategic program to increase student recruitment and retention;
support for diversity and inclusion communications plan;  plan and coordinate special events;  provide strategic counsel to senior administration, trustees, and to school and Board department staff;  support for the development and implementation of a board-wide plan for partnerships to enhance learning opportunities for all students – this includes community outreach and corporate partnership recruitment and liaison; respond to media inquiries, social media outreach; write and edit speeches, scripts and other communication materials.


• University degree or diploma in public relations, journalism, communications or a related field
• 5 to 7 years of experience, showing progressively more responsibility and on-the-job success
• Outstanding writing and strategic communication planning skills
• Excellent computer skills including Macromedia Contribute and PowerPoint
• Experience in media relations, issues management, special events and print production
• Understanding of the public sector and educational issues would be an asset
• Ability to work under high pressure and tight timelines
• Record of satisfactory on-the-job performance while employed by the Peel District School Board

SALARY: C5-1 (Min. $75,217 - Max. $89,475) per annum (Under Review)
