The Animal Welfare Club at Lorne Park Secondary School raised $263.06 for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to support Elephant Conservation. Students were inspired to support the organization after speaking with Sheryl Fink, the Director of Wildlife campaign in Canada.
Students went to each home room to educate classmates about elephant conservation and animal welfare, collected funds and set up a Toonie for Tusks donation box.
The annual Toonie for Tusks campaign has been running at Lorne Park since 2015. The goal is the raise awareness to the plight of elephants who are now considered to be an endangered species as a result of paching and the ivory trade.
