Rick Hansen robotics teams triumph at first regional competition
Rick Hansen Secondary School’s Vex robotics team won top prize at this year’s first regional Vex robotics competition on Dec. 1. Held at Woburn Collegiate in Scarborough, the competition required 71 teams to create a robot that could gather and lift bean bags into a trough. Teams then worked collaboratively to face off 2 vs. 2.
Multiple teams represented Rick Hansen, with teams 1241Q and 1241X making it to the finals. Both teams won a game and played a tiebreaker, resulting in a win for team 1241Q. The team was awarded the finalists award as well as the Think award for programming.
The next competition will be on Dec. 15 in St. Catherines.
