More than 30 Model UN students represented Lorne Park Secondary School at the 2018 UTMUN conference at the University of Toronto from Feb. 8 to 11. Student delegates from around the world gathered together to put their leadership and diplomacy skills to the test at this four-day event.
Three Lorne Park students received awards for demonstrating exceptional diplomacy skills in the following categories:
The 69th FIFA Congress committee:
- Outstanding Delegate award – Andrew Batek, grade 10 student
- Honourable mention – Peter Potapchik, grade 12 student
Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC):
- Best Delegate award – William Hollis, grade 10 student
University of Toronto Model United Nations (UTMUN) is a four-day conference that provides high school students with opportunities to challenge themselves as they test their diplomacy and negotiation skills through debates, drafting resolutions and more. Students are presented with real-world crises and are tasked to adapt to escalating events, including security threats and starling paradigm shifts.
