Rick Hansen Humanity Club wins Daryl L. Cook Peer Helping Award
Rick Hansen Secondary School's social justice club, Hansen for Humanity, is this year’s recipient for the Daryl L. Cook Peer Helping Award. Hansen for Humanity consists of a total of 50 members from Grades 9 to 12 with Irene Frankland and Trevor Birrell as staff sponsors. Throughout the year, the club met biweekly and accomplished many things including money drives for Fort McMurray and Syrian Refugee family sponsorship, a seniors' social, and a Free the Children Me to We week.
The Daryl L. Cook Peer Helping Award is presented annually to a secondary school Peer Helping Group that has demonstrated a positive impact on the school community. The Award was established in the spring of 1993 to honour Daryl's outstanding contribution to guidance and counselling in Peel and to acknowledge her strong support of peer helping programs in Peel schools.
