Peel board shares online supplemental learning resources to support students, families during COVID-19 pandemic

The Peel District School Board has developed a working list of online supplemental learning resources to support students and families who wish to engage in independent, self-directed learning. This list includes links to external sites that provide activities and tutorials that cater to various grade levels and learning styles. These resources are intended to help mitigate learning loss during the COVID-19 shutdown, and are optional.

Please note that this document is not an exhaustive list. It will continue to be updated as new resources become available. We recommend you check back regularly.

Students can also access online libraries and database through their BYOD accounts. They can also explore multimedia resources like TED TalksLearn360 and the National Film Board of Canada through their BYOD accounts.

Ministry of Education Learn at Home portal

The Ministry of Education has launched a Learn at Home online portal that includes supplementary resources elementary and secondary students can use to practice and learn math and literacy skills at home. The ministry is also working with TVO and TFO to roll-out education programming on their broadcast channels.

Learning forward

The Ministry of Education has asked school boards to use the two weeks before April 5, 2020, to develop plans to re-establish the delivery of curriculum, and to explore ways to provide students with access to devices and Wifi in the event the closure is extended. Online learning environments, like Brightspace, are being considered, as well as ways to deliver the curriculum outside of the Internet.

Like you, we have serious concerns about equity of access to technology and Wi-Fi, as well as worries about how all students, including those with English as a Second Language and Special Education needs, will be supported. Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to learning during the closure, and we will be working diligently to ensure all learning needs are met.

We will share our plan with the community in the coming days. Thank you for your ongoing understanding.
