Staff, students, alumni from Forest Avenue Public School invite the community to celebrate their 100th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. The celebration will showcase achievements made by staff and students over the last century.
"This anniversary marks a significant milestone in the history of our school, and the Port Credit community," says Michele East, principal at Forest Avenue. "What we're celebrating is a blend between the rich history of traditions that our school has proudly continued to this date and the modern, innovative technologies that our students and staff embrace daily. We're excited to recognize a century of successes with generations of Forest Avenue families, alumni and community members."
With approximately 175 students, Forest Avenue is an elementary school with a big heart and strong community bonds in the Port Credit area. The school has many traditions, including annual fun fairs and holiday lunches to connect with parents and community members. The school prides itself in its many extracurricular activities, including a focus on coding and robotics. In 2016 and 2017, Forest Avenue received the Metrolinx Smart Commute Bike to School Week Award.
To honour the milestone, the event will feature a reunion for former students, staff and parents. There will be photo displays and tours throughout the classrooms—organized by decades, student artwork, student performances and greetings by local dignitaries.
The celebration will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Forest Avenue is located at 20 Forest Ave. in Mississauga.
