Peel board informs families, students of secondary sanctions

The Peel District School Board sent a letter home with students on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, to inform families of Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) labour action. This action, which is currently being taken in a number of school boards across Ontario, begins in Peel secondary schools today.

"We know that, as parents, it’s important for you to know how this situation may be affecting your teen so I’m writing to provide you with an update," says Janet McDougald, chair of the board, in the letter. At this time, every effort will be made to keep all schools and work sites open and operating. However, if labour action continues for an extended period of time, the board will have to consider other options.

Notes McDougald, "As a board, we respect our secondary teachers and value their work with students. We remain committed to reaching fair, negotiated agreements with all of our employee groups. We will do everything possible to provide safe and supportive learning environments for our students during any labour disruption."

The letter is posted on the board’s website at www.peelschools.org/aboutus/labour and can also be found on secondary school websites.
