Students, staff and members of the community will celebrate the official opening of Mount Pleasant Village Public School located in Brampton at an Open House on Oct. 4. The Brampton Public Library which is attached to the school building, and also opened its doors a year ago, will participate in the anniversary celebration.
"Our school has an incredible unique community experience,” says Denise Ingoldsby, principal at Mount Pleasant Village. “Our passionate staff, students and community members have worked together to create a vibrant learning and working environment. We’re so thankful to be surrounded by such supportive organizations like the Brampton Library and community centre which allow our students to be part of an amazing climate for learning.”
A variety of activities are planned for the evening including student performances and the introduction of a school time capsule. City of Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell, Director of Education Tony Pontes and Peel District School Board Trustee Suzanne Nurse will bring greetings at the event.
Mount Pleasant Village opened up its doors just over a year ago on Sept. 6, 2011. The school grounds include a community skating rink in the winter months that transforms into a pond in the warmer months. The original Canadian Pacific Railway train station on the site has been re-assembled on the property and is designed for community events and meeting rooms. The school operates on the philosophy that “it takes a village to raise a child," an African proverb. It is a place open to the community that welcomes volunteers to share their time and energy to help students achieve.
The Open House will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the official school opening ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
Mount Pleasant Village Public School is located at 100 Commuter Dr. in Brampton.
