Secondary School's flexography program sponsors Open House, Career Information
Day
Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary
School in Mississauga invites the public and all interested individuals
to attend a flexography program Open House on Feb. 8. Members of the
flexography industry, and colleges and universities will set up displays
in the gymnasium and speak to students and parents about futures in
the industry. Senior flexography students will also provide demonstrations
in the school's flexography facility that showcase the skills they have
developed.
"There is a high demand
for skilled workers in the many diverse segments of the flexography
industry," says Peter Belanger, head of technology and art at Gordon
Graydon Memorial. "Our Flexography Career Day will provide an opportunity
for students to talk one-on-one with over 20 potential employers, and
college and university representatives. Many students pursue print management
or pre-press graphics programs at the post-secondary level."
Flexography, also known as
flexo, is a package print technology and a rapidly growing segment of
the printing industry. Gordon Graydon Memorial is the only academic
school in Eastern Canada that offers secondary students a flexography
program.
The funding for this program,
both capital and operating, is provided by the flexography industry.
"The continued support of the flexography industry has allowed
Gordon Graydon Memorial to maintain and improve the program over the
years," notes Belanger.
The Open House will take place between 8:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Feb.
8. Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School is located at 1490 Ogden
Avenue in Mississauga.
