The teachers and guidance counsellors at your child's school are a great source of information for parents, as you help your teen plan for the future. Here are some questions you might want to discuss when you meet with your child's teachers:

• What courses are offered that directly address career/life planning?
• What career/life planning activities are planned for this year-for example, presentations, seminars, field trips?
• What career/life planning resources are available to students and parents?
• How can I learn more about all the post secondary opportunities-apprenticeship, college, university and the workplace?
• What are the steps of effective career/life planning? How can I learn more about it?
• What pathway programs does the school offer?
• What specialized pathway programs does the Peel board offer?
• How can I help my student select courses in order to create a program pathway?
• What must be considered when selecting course type in grades 9 and 10-applied, academic, locally developed? In grades 11 and 12-apprenticeship, college, university, workplace?
• How is career/life planning incorporated into each course my child is taking?
• What experiential learning opportunities does this course/school provide-for example, job shadowing, work experience, field trips, co-op?
• How can my teen use the 40 hours of volunteer service to support his/her career/life planning?
• What co-curricular activities could help my child with the career/life planning process?
