The Peel District School Board American Sign Language – English Educational Interpreter will report to the Co-ordinating Principal of Special Programs. Responsibilities will include: interpret all information; teach beginning sign language to children and adults as necessary to foster communication between student and school community; keep abreast of the curriculum and pre-teach and post-teach where necessary to ensure that student is prepared with new sign language vocabulary and understands concepts and information; in consultation with the teacher modify the curriculum where necessary to meet student’s individual needs; other duties as assigned.
• College Diploma in American Sign Language and English Interpretation or equivalent and certification by the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada
• Experience providing interpretation and facilitating student learning and training in a variety of settings
• Fluent in American Sign Language and English
• Knowledge of the elementary and secondary education system in Ontario
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
SALARY: A1-5 (Min. $43,759 to Max. $50,656) Under Review
