Students, staff and members of the community will celebrate the official opening of Beryl Ford Public School on June 5. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include student performances and greetings from dignitaries, including the school’s namesake Beryl Ford.
"We’re all so excited to showcase our wonderful school to the community,” says Connie Stella, principal at Beryl Ford Public School. "This is sure to be a special event, and I’m sure our parents and community partners will be impressed by the new facility, and the talent of our students and staff."
The school is named for long-serving trustee Beryl Ford, who is trustee for wards 7 and 8 in Brampton. Ford was first elected to the Peel District School Board in 1985. She served as vice-chair from 1991 to 1993 and chair from 1993 to 1998. Prior to becoming trustee, Ford worked as a library technician at Bramalea Secondary School in the early 70's. She became head secretary at Williams Parkway Senior Public School in 1976 and head secretary at Goldcrest Public School in 1983. In the fall of 2011, Ford was honoured for 40 years of service with the board. Ford has been honored with a Women of Achievement Award and more recently the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for community service.
“I am so incredibly honoured for the chance to join the celebration at the opening of this beautiful school,” says Beryl Ford, trustee. “I have been a trustee for over 28 years and in that time I have had many awards and honours —but none as great or a humbling as to have a school named for me.”
Beryl Ford Public School opened its doors to students in September 2012. The school is located at 45 Ironshield Drive in Brampton.
