The Workplace Safety and Insurance Act requires minimum standards for first aid boxes, stations and trained first aiders. The first aid kit(s) must at all time be in the charge of a certified first aid provider and should be located where it is easily accessible for that person. The following steps should be completed at the beginning of each school year.
  • Check the First Aid Kit and restock, as needed.
  • Survey the staff to identify individuals who hold current first aid certificates (must have been issued certificate within the previous two years) ;
  • Advise the Environmental Health and Safety Office of the name(s) of the first aider(s) in your location or if you do not have a qualified first aider.
  • Post the names of qualified first aider(s) near the first aid box(es).

While a semi-annual inventory check of the contents will help to ensure the contents of the kit(s)meet the requirements of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, it is recommended that contents be ordered as required throughout the year. Re-stocking of the first aid kits is the responsibility of the Principal/Manager at each location
