J-Initiator Plug-In
Manual Installation Process
These instructions are written for a user with Windows XP, however, the process
will be very similar for someone using either Windows '98 or Windows VISTA.
- Click either one of the following two links to request the J-Initiator installation
file from the web:
[ link |
link #2 ]. These links are
also available on the Resources page, accessible from the Report Card
home page.
- You will be prompted to either "Run" or "Save" the file —
click Save.
- On the Save In pop-up dialogue box, click the Desktop
icon on the left side.
- Click Save to begin downloading the file to your computer desktop.
- When the download has been completed, close Internet Explorer and minimize any
other applications you have running.
- On your desktop (where you see all your program icons, background wallpaper image,
etc.) look for the jinit.exe program; it appears as an open box
with a Windows window behind it. Double-click this program icon.
- On the "Open File - Security Warning" dialogue pop-up, click
Run to begin the installation.
- Click Yes to accept the agreement.
- Click Yes again to begin the install preparation.
- Click Next to accept the install defaults.
- Click Next to begin the actual software installation. This part
may take a few moments to complete.
- When the process has completed, click OK — we are not using
the Netscape web browser, so the message does not apply to us.
- Open Internet Explorer again and return to the Report Card home page
(the "Butterfly Page").
- Click Click to Login!; if Internet Explorer displays the
yellow warning bar and prompts you to run the ActiveX Control, choose to run the ActiveX
plug-in. This should be the only time that you have to authorize the plug-in to run.
Windows VISTA Concerns:
If you are using Windows VISTA and encounter an error regarding the "installation
not being supported on a 64-bit O/S", we are aware of the issue and working to find
a solution. However, at this time, we are unaware of a work-around for users and apologize
for the inconvenience. Let me stress that not all Windows VISTA users will encounter this
error; many users have been able to connect and work on their report cards on this latest
version of Windows.
