What is BeL – Blended e-Learning?
____________________________________________________________

Blended e-Learning (BeL) provides classroom teachers and their students with access to a variety of resources and tools that support instruction and learning.

What is it?

BeL supports electronic learning in the classroom.  Two instructional resource teachers (secondary) support classroom teachers in engaging their students with various instructional technologies as well as demonstrating how this medium can foster differentiated learning.

Virtual Classroom Environments

Example:  Many things you would do in a normal classroom, but virtual (chat, discussions, lessons and activities)

Electronic Resources to Support Instruction

Examples:  Ontario Educational Resource Bank, Teacher to Teacher, CISS Web Site

Video Conferencing

Video Conferencing (VC) is a discussion between two or more groups of people who are in different places but can see and hear each other using electronic communication.

Examples:  Virtual field trips, connecting with classes in another school

Effective e-Learning Instructional Strategies

Example:  Virtual music word walls with multimedia connections

Professional Supports

Learn a particular software or tool to support your classroom instruction.  For example, use SmartIdeas 5 to create concept maps.

Where do you get the resources and help?

  • Teachers can register for and obtain access to resources found within Peel's on-line learning environment for themselves and their students.  Content can be personalized as desired. Communication tools such as threaded discussion boards and assignment submission boxes are available if requested.
  • Teachers and students can access the Ontario Educational Resource Bank. The password issued to Peel District School Board on the Curriculum and Instruction Support Services Intranet web site, under the Instructional Technologies menu option.   Students should obtain the password from their teacher.
  • Teachers can access interactive flash animations. Animations can be found in the subject areas of the Curriculum and Instruction Support Servicies Intranet web site (through Peel Intranet).
  • Teachers can contact the BeL Resource Teachers by e-mail (below)

Who is it for?

BeL is for everybody!  Teachers may choose to use one or more of the tools to aid a particular project or a teacher may choose to register their class into a virtual environment and interact with their students both face to face as well as virtually.  BeL supports the regular classroom setting where teacher and students meet.   BeL is not to be confused with the on-line learning environment where the majority of the instruction and learning occurs remotely from each other.   To obtain more information on how to earn high school credits in an online environment, go to PasOnline.
