How is the program organized?
Registration takes place on September 13, 2008 (for Saturday classes only) or September 14, 2008 (for Sunday classes only). All classes will begin the following weekend, on September 20 or 21. No classes are scheduled for holidays or school vacations. Classes operate each weekend until June 6, 2009 (for Saturday classes) or June 7, 2009 (for Sunday classes). Elementary classes are scheduled to operate for 2.5 hours and secondary classes for 3 hours each day. All classes are scheduled to begin between 8:30 am and 9:45 am, depending on the location.
How do students register?
All elementary and secondary students, who have not pre-registered in April/May 2008, register at the school location on September 13 or September 14, 2008 between 9:00 am and noon at the school where the language is being offered. Non-Peel Board secondary day-school students must bring transcripts. For new registrants to the Board, elementary or secondary, one of the following original documents is required: proof of Canadian Citizenship (Birth certificate, Birth registration card, Passport, Citizenship Card or Certificate); or Confirmation of Permanent Resident Status (Permanent Resident Card [PRC] or IMM5292); Proof of Landed Immigrant Status (Record of Landing IMM1000).

Notes: As the Ministry of Education requires a minimum number of hours of instruction at the credit level, no secondary school student will be registered after September 27or 28, 2008. No elementary school student will be registered after March break. Visa students wishing to take a credit course will be charged $900.00.
Formation of classes
Formation of classes takes place on September 13/14, 2008. All classes are conditional on sufficient enrolment and are subject to cancellation or transfer to an alternate location. Please note that space in some courses may be limited.
What is taught?
The International Languages program is based on oral communication, reading and writing in languages other than English or French. Grammar and language knowledge are incorporated into the three basic skill areas.
Who is eligible to attend?
Any student who is currently enrolled in a Peel District School Board elementary or secondary school is eligible to attend. Other elementary students may be admitted if space is available in an existing class. For International Languages secondary courses, students must be currently enrolled in an Ontario secondary school and must have permission from their home school principal or designate. Students receive a credit for courses successfully completed. Adults interested in learning a language should pursue instruction through General Interest Night School.
The opportunity to study a language in addition to English and French can benefit all students. Students enrolled in the program include those:
- with no prior knowledge of an international language
- whose first language is English or French and who wish to study their ancestral language as a second or third language
- whose first language is their ancestral language
