1. A program designed to help develop essential skills training in reading text, document use, writing, numeracy, oral communication, thinking skills, working with others, computer use and continuous learning.
2. Literacy and Basic Skills is a non-credit program for adults, 19 years of age and older, who have English as their first language. It will provide learners with the literacy skills to study the courses necessary to complete their required high school credits.
3. Classes are offered full-time, part-time, morning, afternoons and evenings during the week and on Saturday and Sunday in Mississauga. We also offer Saturday classes in Brampton.
4. In Mississauga and Brampton, the morning and afternoon classes run from 9 am to noon and from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Classes take place from Monday to Thursday. There are no classes on Friday in Mississauga and Brampton.
In Malton the classes run Monday to Friday, 8:15 am to 1:30 pm.
We do offer evening classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Mississauga and Brampton only. The classes run from 7 to 9:30 pm.
Our weekend classes in Mississauga are offered on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 2:30 pm. In Brampton, classes are only offered on Saturday from 9 am to 2:30 pm.
5. Classes are offered both full and part time. You can discuss the best times for you with the assessor.
6. There is a fee of $30 to help cover the cost of materials.
7. Parking is free at all sites.
8. Childcare services are available at the Mississauga location for children three years of age and older, only while the parents are on the site.
9. There is no need to register for an assessment. They are part of an information session. Information sessions are offered the first Friday of each month at 9:30 am and the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in Mississauga and Brampton. No appointment or registration is necessary.
