The Guiding Collaborative: About us

The Malton community is responsible for managing the Understanding the Early Years (UEY) Malton project.  The project is directed by a Guiding Collaborative of active, involved community members, with the help and support of the Peel District School Board.

The Guiding Collaborative represents Malton’s diverse population.  Members include parents, service providers and representatives from schools, faith centres, community groups and local businesses.

“It takes a village to raise a child.” African proverb

The Guiding Collaborative is a group of active, involved volunteers who are responsible for  directing the UEY Malton project.  We work closely with the Peel District School Board to plan and manage UEY Malton research and activities.  We are committed to improving the health and well-being of the young children and families in our community.

The community connection

The Guiding Collaborative provides an important link between the Malton community and the UEY Malton project.   We are responsible for ensuring that this project identifies and addresses the unique needs of our community, improves local programs and services, and enriches the lives of our children and families.

Who we are

The Guiding Collaborative reflects Malton’s diverse population.  Our members represent a wide range of groups and organizations in the community, including parents, service agencies, faith centres, school boards, businesses and the government.  It is our responsibility to ensure that many different voices in the Malton community are heard and respected.

Our role

The role of the Guiding Collaborative is to empower our community to make changes that will improve early childhood development in Malton.  Through our networks and community connections, we encourage community members to get involved in the UEY Malton project.  We motivate people to talk about the needs of our young children and families and to share their ideas and experiences.

We also generate research reports to help people understand children’s issues and participate in decisions that affect our quality of life.  We are actively involved in find ways to improve local programs and services, so that our children are healthy, eager and ready to learn when they start school.  Our goal is to make Malton a community where families can access — and afford — the best opportunities in life for their children.
